The Guarini Institute for Public Affairs is honored to welcome Professor Joseph Nye from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. Professor Nye’s lecture,entitled “Is the American Century Over?” is also the title of his latest book.
Professor Nye,a theorist of liberalism in international relations,is considered one of the most original political scientists in the world.
Harvard University Distinguished Service Professor,and former Dean of the John F. Kennedy School of Government,Dr.Nye earned a PhD in political science from Harvard. He has served as Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs,Chair of the National Intelligence Council,and Deputy Under Secretary of State for Security Assistance,Science and Technology. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences,the British Academy,and the American Academy of Diplomacy. In a recent survey of international relations scholars,he was ranked as the most influential scholar on American foreign policy,and in 2011, Foreign Policy named him one of the top 100 Global Thinkers.
He is the author of thirteen books and more than a hundred and fifty articles in professional and policy journals. His most recent publications are The Powers to Lead (2008), Soft Power: The Means to Success in World Politics (2004),an anthology, Power in the Global Information Age (2004), Understanding International Conflict (2009), The Power Game: A Washington Novel (2004),The Future of Power (2011),and Is the American Century Over (2015).
